🍄 Brick Builds & Bonus Levels: A Mario-Fueled Adventure

There’s something timeless about Super Mario—whether he’s leaping across LEGO bricks or collecting coins on my Nintendo Switch, this heroic little plumber manages to spark laughter, imagination, and unexpected life lessons. In this blog, I’m bringing you into my Mario universe: a mash-up of colorful builds, co-op giggles with my daughter, nostalgic nods to childhood, and maybe even a few mashups with my nursing mascots (Protocol Penny supervising Mushroom Kingdom health checks, anyone?).

🌟 Flashback: Mario, Mom, and Late-Night Laughter

I still remember one particular night—a blur of pajama warmth and pixelated joy—when I first played Super Mario Galaxy with my grandfather sitting nearby. I couldn’t beat a boss level, and she, never one to quit, started calling out strategies like “jump into the sparkle!” (which absolutely was not a strategy, but still worked somehow). We laughed until our stomachs hurt. That memory didn’t just make me love Mario more—it made me love what games do: spark connection, laughter, and a few goofy inside jokes that still live rent-free in my heart.

🕹️ A Warp Pipe to 1995

Before LEGO builds and sleek Nintendo Switch graphics, there was 1995—me, a wide-eyed gamer in Hong Kong, holding my very first Nintendo Gameboy like it was treasure. Super Mario wasn’t just a game; it was the game. The joy of jumping Goombas and collecting coins wasn’t just digital—it was emotional. My mother bought it for me, and that act of love turned pixels into memories. Every level I played felt like her way of saying, “Have fun. Dream big. You deserve this.”

Looking back, it was one of the best times of my life. There’s a magic in those early Mario moments that still powers me through today’s adventures—whether I’m building LEGO castles, co-creating mascot worlds, or helping learners leap over their own clinical

🎮 Leveling Up: The Switch to Togetherness

Fast forward to 2022, and my Mario journey got a major boost—enter the Nintendo Switch OLED. It wasn’t just a purchase; it was a portal to more joy, more bonding, and more kart-fueled chaos with my daughter. Super Mario Kart became our go-to co-op escape, filled with giggles, playful competition, and the occasional “accidental” banana peel sabotage.

The OLED screen made those vibrant worlds pop, but what really lit everything up was seeing her laugh next to me, controller in hand. From Super Mario Odyssey to Bowser’s Fury, each game we played felt like rewriting my childhood—this time with her by my side. And yes, I absolutely had to collect every Mario title I could find. Call it nostalgia, call it collector’s fever… I call it happiness.

🎁 Birthday Bonus: Bricks, Bosses & Builder Mode

In 2025, my birthday month came with a surprise worthy of a “1-UP”—two exclusive Super Mario LEGO sets landed in my hands: The Mighty Bowser (71411) and Mario & Standard Kart (72037). They weren’t just toys. They were a nod to decades of pixelated joy now made tangible, brick by brick. I knew right away they’d take time to build, especially Bowser (he’s got movable jaws, for crying out loud!). But here’s the thing—building them is half the fun. It’s meditative, nostalgic, and just the right mix of challenge and charm.

These sets feel like a tribute to every Mario memory I’ve made—from my first console in Hong Kong to colorful kart races with my daughter. Now, I get to construct a Mario moment that doesn’t just sit on a screen—it sits on my shelf, proudly declaring, “This joy was built with love.”
